“Your grace, would you please release me?”

“In the middle of the dance? I could never be so ungentlemanly, Lady Alexandra. You are safe and secure in my arms.”

“Secure? Perhaps. Safe? Never.”

“As if you wish to be safe.” Val whirled her sharply, enjoying her gasp of surprise as she clutched his arm, pressing closer to him.

“You’re creating a scene,” Lady Alexandra hissed, her body tensing away from him.

“No, I’m not. I’m merely waltzing with a lovely lady of quality…”

She might be tense, but Val knew the look of an aroused woman, and Lady Alexandra shone with it. Whenever he saw her, she tempted him. But tonight…seeing another man look at her with lust in his eyes…he’d be damned if he let her escape him. Not without a fight. Not again.

“Have you been so scandalous as to waltz without the permission of the dragons of Almacks?” He whirled her out of the path of a plodding, red-faced squire.

“I received permission some ten years ago, Kendrick, but the speed of your spins are likely to cause multi-dancer collisions. Not everyone is so deft at the dance as you.”

“Thank you for your delightful compliment,” Val suddenly knew exactly what to say to entertain her…and himself.

“It wasn’t intended as such.” Lady Alexandra stared at his shoulder, her lips pursed, her brows drawn down.

“Nevertheless, I’ll accept it,” he purred. “A man likes to be told by the woman in his arms he is skilled in his movements. It inspires him to greater effort. A woman’s words of encouragement certainly inspire me.”

She blinked, her cheeks blooming a becoming rose color as her blue eyes flew to his. He smiled wickedly. Oh yes, she understood his suggestive comment, even if she didn’t want to admit it.

“You… You…”

He raised his brows inquiringly, unable to keep the smugness from his expression. “Yes, Lady Alexandra?”

“Oh. You’re impossible!” She tried unsuccessfully to hide a shiver. But Val could see by her taut nipples his words excited her.

“Perhaps you prefer slower movements?” He matched the tempo to his words. Val smiled as he led her through the dance with stately strides. “Slow and leisurely pleases most women, though as the dance reaches its inevitable climax, speed must increase for both the man and the woman. Don’t you agree?” He increased their speed, smiling as she followed his lead without hesitation.

“My Lord, this is most inappropriate conversation.” Her breathing quickened as she stared into his eyes, a flush rising in her cheeks.

Val’s cock stirred and he knew she felt it straining toward her as her eyes widened. “My Lady. We are discussing the proper steps of the waltz. There is nothing unsuitable in our speech.”

“Nothing unsuitable?” She choked. “Are you mad?”

“Not in the least,” he assured her, increasing their speed as the waltz reached its end.

When the music ceased they came to a quick stop—Lady Alexandra panting in his arms. Now this was how he wanted a woman to look after strenuous exertion. Excited and disturbed.

Naughty List - On the Eighteenth of January '78

Good Morning everyone! Today, I'm thrilled to welcome Regina Kammer to my blog. She's a fellow member of the Naughty Literati and her short story, On the Eighteenth of January '78 -or- A Night at Valley Forge is part of the great boxed set, Naughty List.

Here's an opportunity to get to know Regina and then I'll share the short blurb for her story and an excerpt!

Which person in your life influenced you the most with your writing?

Chris Baty, the founder of National Novel Writing Month. Chris believes anyone can write a novel and challenges people to write 50,000 words of a novel during the thirty days of November. I took up that challenge back in 2006 and have been having fun as an author ever since. Every time I see him, he is super encouraging, as well.

Is one of your books your personal favorite? Why?

“The General’s Wife: An American Revolutionary Tale” is my favorite. It’s both erotica—with the sexual journey of the heroine—and romance—with a Happily Ever After, plus it’s an adventure story with a lot of history. It is the epitome of what I set out to write when I decided to become a writer. It’s also self-published so there are some naughty scenes that I’m certain most publishers would balk at.

What’s coming up next for you in your writing?

Besides the Naughty List anthology I’m in with another American Revolution-set short story,I’m hoping to explore Steampunk a little more. The genre dovetails very well with the Victorian era, which I love writing, but there is freedom to add little twists to technology and the historical timeline.

What’s your favorite guilty pleasure?

A steaming hot bath with a cocktail and romance novel. This is so much more guilt-inducing when performed in drought-stricken California.

Where would you like to visit and why?

I’d love to go back to Turkey. I’m an art historian and Turkey is one of those “crossroads of civilization” places. Neolithic, Greek, Roman, Byzantine, Seljuk, Ottoman art and archaeology abound. Plus the food is amazing.

In a nod to the Actor’s Studio, what's your favorite curse word and why?

“Bollocks” for Brits, “Shit” for Americans. I love using these in my historicals! They suggest massive disappointment in one terse word.

On The Eighteenth of January, ’78; or, A Night At Valley Forge

During the infamous winter of ‘77-‘78 at Valley Forge, two soldiers fanboy over their charismatic leader, General George Washington.

“I saw him today,” Zeb said quietly.

Him could only refer to one man. Zeb held General George Washington in something more than high regard. He worshipped the man, hoping for a chance to see him every day, blushing and fawning like a virgin miss at an assembly hall during a country dance whenever the general happened across their squad. Barn wasn’t sure if it was endearing or unseemly.

Yet, it was too easy to fall under the spell that was “GW”. The general had an allure, a magnetism that drew all in, making women swoon and men want to serve. If the notion of independent states, the freedom to rise above circumstance of birth, the prospect of taxes building a nation rather than filling a king’s coffers did not attract the sons and daughters of America, then GW the man certainly did. Just his very presence got one’s blood to boil against tyranny, set one’s pulse beating to the rhythm of liberty, urged one’s feet to march for freedom.

GW was the sole reason why twelve thousand American soldiers camped on a plateau above a captured Philadelphia, keeping a watchful eye on the British while enduring freezing rains and the privations of civilized life, lacking proper clothes, nourishing food, suffering the pains of amputation and the stench of death.

“He was on foot,” Zeb murmured. “His great height the equal of mine own, yet I felt so small before him. His blue eyes penetrated my soul as he asked such simple questions—”

Zeb’s cock sprang to life in his clothes, pushing into Barn’s left butt cheek. Barn stifled a sigh.

“Did we have enough tools? Was there enough wood?”

Barn reached around and slowly unfastened the buttons at the fall of Zeb’s breeches. As always, Zeb gave no protest.

“He seemed very concerned our hut had not yet been constructed.”

http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/2/2b/Washington-at-ValleyForge.jpgBarn snorted. “Yeah, well, with Alex and Johnny laid up with dysentery and Zack dead, it’s been slow going.”

Zeb did not respond. He merely adjusted himself to allow Barn’s questing fingers better access at the placket of his drawers. Barn struggled to contain his zeal.

“He took off his hat to speak to me. His gray hair was still tinged with a touch of the auburn of his youth.”

Freed from its prison of clothes, Zeb’s magnificent manhood bobbed impetuously. Barn gripped the hard flesh, closing his eyes as heat from the intimate connection seeped through his fingerless gloves to course through his body.

“His timbre was melodious, almost enchanting. I could listen to him talk about felling trees all day.”

Barn chuckled. “And not do any felling yourself, hmm?”

Again Zeb ignored him, instead steering the conversation to his favorite topic. “How do you think he guards against the cold all alone in his tent?” There was a poignant earnestness to his question.

Barn twisted around to face his companion, the adulation and concern in Zeb’s expression softly illuminated by the dying campfire outside. “I’m sure his greatcoat keeps him plenty warm.” Zeb’s devotion to GW spawned a fragility that impelled Barn to want to protect his tent mate, to comfort him in the only way he knew how.

Vitual Blog Tour - Jean Hart Stewart's Fiery Pursuit

I want to welcome my guest today, Jean Hart Stewart. She's celebrating her new release, Fiery Pursuit. At every stop, Jean will give one commenter her choice of a book from Jean's backlist which can be found at http://www.jeanhartstewart.com. At the end of the tour, one random commenter, as well as the host with the most comments (not counting their own or Jean's) will win their pick of Jean's books in print, plus a *Fiery Pursuits* t-shirt. So comment often and follow Jean's blog tour to increase your chances to win! For the blog today, I asked Jean how she came up with her unique story concept.

Here's her response:

Where did the idea come from to mix elves and Constantinople as I did in Fiery Pursuit? You ask a great question and I’ll answer it as well as I can. I knew I was starting a new series, hopefully of eight books, for Ellora’s Cave and that it would be about elves. After all, I’ve done Druids and Mages, so needed a new set of heroes. Sexy handsome elves appealed to me. Lars is an irresistible dose of male attraction. I always start my series far enough back that I can allow the protagonists to raise a family, and then trace the children’s lives. And I had the first chapter written, which is selling a beautiful slave at auction. Constantinople seemed the perfect place as harem auctions were still occurring there in the year 1898. I hope you all like Lars as well as I do. He’s yummy, masterful, and kind, all at the same time. And of course he’s gloriously handsome.

The research was fascinating, as always. I loved researching first for the concept of elves. It turns out elves come in many different shapes and sizes according to folklore of various countries. Scandinavian elves are tall and handsome and I certainly did not want my hero to look like a gnome (who are technically in the elf family). Once I had the nationality the name Lars came easily. So I had the first chapter, the name of the hero, and the concept. This book was a joy to write. It’s different from my others, but then again it had better be. The main difference is this is the first book I’ve written that is frankly erotica. The second book, Stormy Pursuit, is now being edited and the third, Dark Pursuit is in the editor’s queue. The fourth one, tentatively called Dangerous Pursuit is giving me fits and I’ve only about 60 pages written. My heroine is being a bit stubborn.

That’s nothing new in a writer’s life, so don’t worry. I’ll get it straightened out soon. Thanks, Francesca, for inviting me today!

BLURB:

When Lars uses his Elfin power to rescue Sophie from a slave market in Constantinople he knows instantly she is meant to be his mate. But the murderer of Sophie’s father still pursues her, and Lars must all his strength to try to save her. And convince Sophie he is what she wants.

The villain who sold her into slavery reappears and Lars needs all his Elfin strength. When his power mysteriously weakens, can Lars get it back? And will it be enough to save them both?

Excerpt:

Lars had seldom felt so wordless. He’d lived his years in pleasure and with pain. More pleasure than pain certainly, as his elfin abilities gave him immeasurable advantage in most situations. But always with honor. And now, to be offered the one thing he wanted the most, masked in a reasoning he could not quite dismiss.

As he hesitated he looked at her. He noticed the distress in Sophie’s eyes as tears filled them, but she didn’t waver. She looked lost as a child in a dark forest, and well she might. Her life as she knew it had been ripped away. She’d suffered for weeks at the hands of uncaring brutes.

She needed the cherishing he’d longed to give her. And the life-long protection he’d commit to at the same time. He’d not tell her yet of his sudden and complete certainty they were each other’s destiny. But he realized it to the depths of his soul, and he’d go to her with that conviction.

He moved quickly, wrapping her in his arms. He’d give her what she wanted, and gladly, and he’d not tell her yet that in doing so he was committing himself for whatever length of life remained to him. He’d pleasure her—oh, how he’d pleasure her–even though she wouldn’t know he was giving her his total love and his soul.

Elves loved only once, and deeply. He’d almost decided he’d never find the one girl for him.

Love living in California, even though I’m a transplant. Love writing and all it entails, crazy characters demanding to be let loose on the page, long hours of research, every bit of it. I raised two children and spent about twenty years in real estate before I summoned the courage to quit and do what I always wanted to do, WRITE! While he was alive my husband was my first-stop editor and biggest fan. Now that my children are accustomed to my writing sexy novels they’re equally supportive.

I’m currently finishing my 24th book, tentatively named Double Pursuit and I have four books coming out this year. My Mage series is finished and I’ve started a new series where the new hero has Elfin blood. He’s fun, as well as tall, lithe and gifted. I think I’m blessed as well as lucky. Do write me with any questions. I love to hear from readers!
